OVERVIEW OF SANDERLING COTTAGE

Sanderling is the quintessential Grade-2 listed Downalong cottage in St Ives, perfectly located and full of history.
The granite former fisherman’s cottage is set over 3-storeys with the recent extensive refurbishments having transformed the interior, yet successfully retains the character and emphasises original features such as wooden floorboards and beams.

Set within the quaint and picturesque conservation area of Downalong, the cottage is just minutes (or even less) walk away from St Ives harbour and a selection of stunning sandy beaches including Porthgwidden, Bamaluz and the popular surfing beach of Porthmeor.

A couple of minutes further on will bring you to the shops, restaurants and galleries, including the impressive and renowned Tate, now extended and housing a permanent gallery of work from St Ives’ finest artists. Also just a short stroll away is the grassy headland of The Island with stunning views of St Ives Bay and the North Cornwall coast.

The property itself has two bedrooms, one with king-sized double bed, the other a twin with two singles. The largest of the two is on the top floor and has its own en-suite wc, the twin being on the middle floor along with the cosy living room. On the ground floor is the kitchen diner, extremely well-equipped with large fridge (with freezer compartment), slimline dishwasher, microwave and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. The utility area at the end of the kitchen has a washing machine.

Also downstairs is the bathroom with shower, whilst the back door leads to a courtyard with outdoor shower, perfect for rinsing off after returning home from one of the nearby beaches. The courtyard is small with a storage cupboard, but absolutely perfect for storing surf boards and other beach gear.

The address of Sanderling Cottage is officially on Back Road East, but the back gate opens up on to the very quiet St Eia Street, so makes off-loading your car very easy and stress-free!
The closest parking is at nearby The Island or Barnoon car parks just a few minutes walk away from where you can purchase a weekly Rover ticket, a transferable parking ticket that enables you to park in any of St Ives’ main car parks.

The cottage is kept warm and cosy with wall-heaters and heated towel rails, so is equally perfect for a short winter break as it is for a family summer beach holiday.

Sorry, no pets are allowed at Sanderling Cottage.

GUESTS REVIEWS

Sanderling Cottage was fantastic. Excellent size for a family of 4, comfortable furnishings and the location was excellent - a few minutes walk to Porthgwidden beach and a few more to Porthmeor. The street was quiet but was only a 60-second walk down a cobbled alley from the Harbourside. Once parked, we didn't move the car again for a week and used our location like a foreign resort, with places to eat and sandy beaches in every direction. Looking forward already to another visit! Huge thanks to Alan for making things so easy from start to finish.

Fantastic fast efficient, helpful service begining to end. [Sanderling Cottage is a] spotless, beautiful, character property that was well equipped and very comfortable. In a gem of a location steeped in history and a stones throw from all St Ives has to offer (Harbour, Sea, Beaches, Shops, Restaurants/Cafe's/Pubs, Culture & Art Scene, Beautiful Coastal Walks & Train Journeys) whilst the property was still tucked away, just far enough, to escape into your own quite beautiful space at the end of the day. Would definitely recommend this lovely cottage. My husband, self and son age 14yrs had a fantastic time.
